Megeno’s approach to data privacy is firmly rooted in European values, such as fundamental principles behind the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other uniquely European ethico-legal frameworks.
Everyone must comply,
but we choose to go an extra mile.
The GDPR came into force in May 2018 and it applies to all organisations processing personal data of European citizens. However, organisations are under no obligation to proactively demonstrate their GDPR compliance by, for example, publishing self-assessment or external audit reports. As a consequence, it is often difficult for others to assess whether, and to what extent, an organisation is actually GDPR compliant.
In the spirit of transparency, Megeno has undertaken a voluntary GDPR compliance certification process through an external auditor. This process relies on a formal framework recommended by the national Data Protection Authority of Luxembourg.
In today's data-driven world, there is a growing understanding that processing of personal data must be supported by appropriate privacy and data protection safeguards. This is even more true for medical data, which is widely considered as an especially sensitive form of personal data with potentially far-reaching consequences. That’s why data privacy is at the heart of everything we do at Megeno. Megeno’s approach to data privacy is firmly rooted in European values, such as fundamental principles behind the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other uniquely European ethico-legal frameworks.
Our philosophy is best described by our demonstrable commitment to the following principles:
Processing of medical data is associated with unique ethico-legal challenges which often go beyond the scope of the GDPR. Ensuring medical confidentiality, handling of incidental findings, and identifying data processing activities most likely to medically benefit a given individual - these are some of the challenges routinely encountered in the context of medical data processing. In order to help us navigate these complexities, Megeno has established an innovative Governance and Oversight mechanism.
At the core of the mechanism is the Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues Board (ELSI Board). The ELSI Board is an external advisory body consisting of leading ELSI experts who provide Megeno with actionable ELSI recommendations. To ensure transparency of the process, Megeno’s adherence to the ELSI Board’s recommendations is assessed by an external assurance party under the framework of International Standard on Assurance Engagements (ISAE) 3000.
